For the media
For me, Morski Zvutsi was a choir I never imagined I might one day conduct — a height that seemed completely out of reach.
The choir in brief
The Morski Zvutsi (Sea Sounds) Mixed Choir is Varna's municipal choir, founded in 1956 by Prof. Marin Chonev. In 2026 it celebrates its 70th anniversary — with a new conductor, Dr. Valentina Georgieva, a new repertoire and a new look.
The choir sings all over Bulgaria and abroad. Its repertoire spans the Renaissance to the present — from sacred music and major works by Mozart, Verdi, Brahms and Rossini to contemporary composers such as Ola Gjeilo and pop and rock classics in new arrangements, like Toto's “Africa” with cajón. The choir loves mixing genres and finding new ways to perform on stage.
Morski Zvutsi holds the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Order of the People's Republic of Bulgaria and the Crystal Lyre award. It is part of the “Prof. Marin Chonev” Choral School of Varna Municipality.
