Nearly twenty years in Italy, a visiting professorship in Seoul, concerts across three continents and dozens of first performances. Today Milena Lazarova plays at the Prof. Marin Chonev Choral School and at the State Opera Varna.

The path

From Sofia to Seoul

Milena Lazarova graduated from the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, in the class of Prof. Milena Mollova.

Nearly two decades in Italy followed, where she taught and performed, and took part in organising festivals and international competitions. From 2008 to 2015 she was a visiting professor at Chugye University for the Arts in Seoul, South Korea.

She has given recitals, chamber concerts and concerts with orchestra in many cities across Bulgaria and Italy, throughout Eastern Europe, and in Norway, Germany, the United States, Singapore and South Korea.

Behind her are dozens of first performances of works by Bulgarian and international composers, many of them world premieres.

The duo

Milena and Milena

In recent years Milena Lazarova has also performed as a piano duo with her mother, Prof. Milena Mollova.

Two pianos, two generations and the same name twice on the poster.

The opera house

At the piano at the State Opera Varna

Milena Lazarova also works as a pianist at the State Opera Varna. Her name appears in the production teams of a number of the theatre's stagings, among them Gounod's Faust and the premiere of Milko Kolarov's opera-fairytale The Happiest Man.

At the choral school

Milena Lazarova is the pianist at the Prof. Marin Chonev Choral School, accompanying the rehearsals and concerts of its ensembles, the Morski Zvutsi Choir among them.

The pianist is the orchestra in the rehearsal room. Everything that will one day sound from the stage passes through her hands first: full scores reduced to two hands at the piano, week after week, until the music settles into place.
